Imperial Valley Food Bank

In an effort to better communicate with our diverse friends and neighbors whom we serve, we launched Nourishing News in September of 2025. There were many actions at the federal level that affected the food supply we normally served, and we wanted to explain this in a manner in which our clients could understand.

What started as a crazy idea, has become a regular part of our distributions. Our clients look forward to it, ask for it by name and have given rave reviews.

The paper is published monthly in English and Spanish and is handed out at all of our distributions as people register. This means the paper reaches over 10,000 families every month and they are the families that are the hardest to reach, many of whom live without computers or smart phones.

Nourishing News has some regular content which includes:

A list of IVFB distributions for the month

A basic menu of the food they will receive that month

A simple and nutritious recipe

A coloring page

A word search

3 mystery photos of the Imperial Valley (and the answers)

A questions segment called “Apple to Apples”

In addition, we publish other helpful articles including health, exercise, financial advice and other helpful information written by professionals in the valley.
